Should We Be Tithing 10% Of Our Income?
New Testament Tithing

Tithe is a word that means tenth or ten percent. In the Old Testament when you hear of tithing it was talking about taxation. Tenth which was basically the tithe that went to fund the Levites and the priests. In other words, the theocratic kingdom was basically...the officers of the government were priests and Levites.  They ran the religious structure so they were paid and subsidized by the tithes of the people, it was ten percent...ten percent of everything they possessed, not just money but ten percent of whatever they had, crops and so forth...animals and things like that. So tithing was a way of funding the goverment back then. So Old Testament tithing is taxation.

The New Testament clearly says to give as your heart desires "So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver" 2 Corinthians 9:7
